Biography

Paul Hinman was elected to his second term as a Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Constituency of Calgary-Glenmore in a by-election on September 14, 2009. He served his first term as the Member representing Cardston-Taber-Warner from 2004 to 2008.

In addition to his role as a Member, Mr. Hinman serves on the following: Standing Committee on the Economy, Standing Committee on Legislative Offices, Standing Committee on Private Bills, and Standing Committee on Privileges and Elections, Standing Orders and Printing.

Paul is a 5th generation Albertan who was born in Edmonton and at the age of three moved to Calgary. Paul attended school in Haysboro at Haddon Road Elementary and Woodman Jr. High School.  He graduated from F.P Walshe High School with honours and was accepted into the Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Alberta.  Paul has four children and resides in the community of Haysboro , in the City Calgary.

Prior to his service with the Legislative Assembly, Mr. Hinman was an irrigation farmer, feedlot operator and small business entrepreneur.

Paul first became interested in politics through his mentor and grandfather, E.W. (Ted) Hinman, former Member of the Legislative Assembly and Minister of Municipal Affairs from 1954 to 1955. He also served as Provincial Treasurer from 1955 to 1964. Paul often accompanied his Grandfather to many political events, which encouraged and inspired him to become actively involved in Alberta politics.

Paul is an avid outdoorsman, and has a strong commitment to safeguard the environment and ensure that we pass on a better Alberta to our next generation.   Paul enjoys hiking and camping, as well as many outdoor sports from water skiing to snow skiing.

As a community volunteer, Paul has shown leadership through involvement with Scouts Canada and the  4-H Club. Paul continues to be active in his Church and Community.

Paul has always enjoyed traveling, and learning about new cultures, he has visited Denmark, Spain, the Caribbean Islands, Africa and Hong Kong.  Paul also served a mission in the Philippines for two years, where he learned to speak Tagalog.
